My Weakness, God’s Opportunity

————-

Our adequacy does not come from ourselves, or from men, but from God.  God’s power and perfection is shown in our weakness.

————-

First let’s get to know each other.  I’m not some hardbody exercise freak, in fact the contrary is true.  I am coming to you from a background of Epstein Barre & chronic illness, rheumatoid arthritis, asthma, food allergies, and clinical depression.  God raised me up to teach WholyFit because of my many weaknesses, not my strengths.  I want to encourage you that if I can become fit and healthy, so can you.  Of course it will take the miraculous intervention of the Lord but that’s what WholyFit is all about:  wholeness, holiness and fitness in Jesus Christ. Let the adventure begin!

————-

From Floor Pounder to Body Bender

————-

“Asthma? I can’t have asthma!”   “You don’t understand.  I’m an aerobics instructor. I work out 3 hours a day” i said.  (In those days I believed that exercise only counted if it was high impact.)  My doctor simply had to be wrong but my pleadings did not make her repent of her diagnosis. I wanted to believe the paramedics who had diagnosed me with  “panic attacks”  for a year.  At least that was less permanent.  She explained that my fit condition was apparently not enough to protect me from the smog of Los Angeles and its devastating effects on my body.  Furthermore, there seemed to be nothing anyone could do to cure the cascade of crippling diseases that had taken up residence within.

————-

Though only 30 something,  I gave up in defeat when the immune-related issues like asthma and reactive arthritis had stolen my fitness and forced me to quit teaching the group exercise classes that were such an important part of my life. The simplest tasks now were challenging.  I couldn’t raise my arm high enough to brush my hair due to joint damage in the shoulder from the rheumatoid arthritis attacks that had “eaten” some of the connective tissue and walking down the stars was precarious when my hips were frozen with joint pain.

————-

I was a sick, overweight, discouraged woman.  Walking down the hall of my new church, I glanced at my choir member ID pcture on the wall.  Gaping in disbelief at the picture of a worn, prematurely aged woman with chipmunk cheeks, I thought, “No.  That’s not me!”  My identity had been firebombed.  I was not the same person who had once competed in the Crystal Lite Aerobic Nationals.

————-

God’s Word became my only hope and comfort.  I read “Is there anyone among you sick?  Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, annointing him with oil in the name of the Lord; and the prayer offered in faith will restore the one who is sick…”  The words came alive to me and suddenly I believed that they were true - for me- RIGHT NOW.

————-

The following Sunday at Johnson Ferry Baptist Church, my mouth literally dropped wide open when from the pulpit, Pastor Bryant said, “You know we don’t normally do this, but I have felt impressed by the Holy Sprit to hold a healing service Sunday night.”  (Why is it we are so surprised when God answers our prayers?)

————-

When I went up for healing prayer, the Pastor said something I’ll never forget.  He said, “If you get well, I want you to understand that it had nothing to do with me.  Jesus is the One who does the healing.”   Then he layed hands on me, annointed me with oil and prayed a simple prayer.

————-

Jesus Does the Healing
————-

From that night on, I underwent a process of gradual supernatural healing until I was well enough to start teaching fitness classes at that very church, sharing my story freely with the participants.  Although I didn’t realize it at the time, chronic illness was the training that God used to reveal a mission He had planned for me: to administer His healing through exercise and prayer.

————-

This was the beginnings of WholyFit.  It has turned out to be the most effective and powerful exercise system I have every used, and yet it is gentle and nourishing.  What was I missing as a “floor pounder”? I’ve learned now that fitness must be a pursuit that involves who we are as a whole person:  body, mind and spirit.  As you meditate on Scripture during exercise, you actually build your body with the Word of God, hope, life and peace.  WholyFit Devotional Exercise:  Fitness for the Whole You!

We at WholyFit provide an alternative to Yoga and along with that, comes a responsibility to continue to educate our culture about the dangers of Yoga.
————–
“Samadhi”
WHAT: YOGA Teaches the humanistic pursuit of self actualization through “Samadhi”.
————–
DEFINITION:
“- a Hindu and Buddhist technical term that usually denotes higher levels of concentrated meditation, or dhyana, in Yogic schools. Nirvana of Buddhism is a step towards Samadhi [1]. It is the eighth and final limb of the Yoga Sutra of Patanjali, and comprises the pinnacle of achievements in samyama, the three-tiered practice of meditation including also dharana and dhyana. It has been described as a non-dualistic state of consciousness in which the consciousness of the experiencing subject becomes one with the experienced object,[2] and in which the mind becomes still (one-pointed or concentrated)[3] though the person remains conscious. Within Hinduism there are other uses of the term. Sahaj samadhi is the effortless and continual state of perfection.”
-Wikepedia
————–
YOGA TEACHES THE HUMANISTIC CONCEPTS OF “Intellectual maturity”, “nobility of human race” & “innate goodness”. These ideals may sound lovely on the outside, but they are not biblical. Yoga teaches that all people are divine, but that they need to achieve self actualization in order for them to realize their divinity. ————–
They believe they can reach their innate god-hood through doing Yoga and meditating. What does the Bible say? The Bible says that we are all born with original sin, in other words, everyone is in need of salvation. We all have a sin nature and are in need of the salvation of Christ.
————–
“There is none righteous, not even one
“there is none who does good, there is not even one.”
…”so that every mouth may be closed and all the world may become accountable to God…”
-For context please read Romans 3:10-20
————–
WHY: Samadhi is one concept that shows so clearly the subtle way that Yoga teaches people to seek salvation* INDEPENDENTLY from God. Yoga teaches that humans are born “good” (innate goodness) and that is their basis for believing that they don’t need God. The Bible is very clear, however, that we cannot gain salvation* on our own. We need God’s forgiveness and intervention.
————–
“I, even I, am the one who wipes out your transgressions for My own sake, and I will not remember our sins.” - God
Isaiah 43:25
————–
Rather than being a noble idea, the belief in innate goodness is actually very prideful. Instead of bringing us toward goodness and truth, this humanist ideal actually leads people away from God and goodness. The truth is that since we are not perfect, we do need God. Only a perfect man could achieve salvation* for all. God became a man, lived the first and ONLY perfect life, and this man, Jesus, gave His life on the cross for the salvation* of everyone who would accept Him. (Read Romans 3:21-27)
————–

But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name, John 1:12

————–

(*Salvation is a Christian-ese term which means to be united with God in life and guarantees heaven when we die.)
————–
HOW: I reject Yoga completely because Yoga rejects the Deity of Christ and the Oneness of God. Yoga rejects the death of Christ as our only means to salvation*. WholyFit exists to educate people about the dangers of Yoga and to offer a replacement for Yoga for Christians and the general public.
————–
May the God who makes everything holy and whole make you holy and whole and keep you fit - body, mind and spirit - for the return of Our Master, Jesus Christ. 1 Thessalonians 5:23 (MSG)
————–
INSTRUCTOR CUEING GEM: It is not only our responsibility to offer exercise that is an alternative to Yoga. This activity comes with the necessary responsibility of continuing to educate our class members about the dangers of Yoga. Let’s be very intentional in our goals. We do not want a situation where our class participants go to WholyFit one day of the week and Yoga on another. If that is the case they are not hearing our message! Please lead your participants to the website. Another idea is to download, “Yoga Versus the Bible” from the website, and simply take one concept every week to talk about with your class members.
————–
Please log into the forum on the instructor chat and offer ideas on how we can fulfill this dual responsibility to our class members. (Go to www.wholyfit.org, choose “Media”, choose “forum”, choose “Instructor chat”)

Yoga and Humanism

by Laura Monica, WholyFit

OVERVIEW OF LAST POST:

We at WholyFit provide an alternative to Yoga and along with that, comes a responsibility to continue to educate our culture about the dangers of Yoga.

Please comment on this article at www.wholyfit.org blog.

It may surprise you that Yoga could easily be classified as a humanist philosophy.

#2 (Kundalini)

————–

WHAT: We’ve been discussing the reasons that Yoga could be viewed as a humanist practice. Here is another reason it fits into the humanist agenda.

————–

YOGIS USE THE TERM “KUNDALINI AWAKENING” FOR THE HUMANIST TERM, “SELF ACTUALIZATION”.

————–

When I begain to investigate Yoga as a Christian, before WholyFit, the “Kundalini” awakening experience was explained to me in two ways:

————–

1. as perfect health

2. as the loss of all personality into a pool of cosmic consciousness.

————–

Is that all there is to it?  Let’s go to an expert who has really experienced this phoenomenon as a nonChristian, and now explains it as a Christian:

————–

Mike Shreve, former Yogi says: (included by permission of Mike Shreve www.thetruelight.net, www.shreveministries.org)

————–

“First, some background information. I taught Kundalini Yoga at four universities in Florida in 1970, with several hundred students attending my classes. I studied personally under a guru named Yogi Bhajan and ran a yoga ashram myself. Each day was consumed with spiritual disciplines: from 3:30 AM to 9 PM. In my classes, I incorporated many Hatha Yoga techniques. Kundalini Yoga claims to be an amalgamation of many types of yogas and a blending of the best benefits from all types, including Hatha.”

————–

He continues,

————–

“According to the Bible, the presence of God can only be accessed through the soul being washed in the blood of Jesus and a person being “born again.” This regenerative experience definitely leads one to a ‘higher state of consciousness’ (a conscious awareness of the reality of God) but it is totally different than anything offered through Eastern religions. Biblical salvation is not the result of some “serpent power” travelling up through the spine from within; it is the result of the power of the Holy Spirit entering INTO a repentant person from WITHOUT. So the contrast of these two approaches to spirituality actually reveals two very different views of God in His relationship with creation (Pantheism versus Theism).”

————–

WHY: Mike explains why Yoga’s “serpent power” is spiritually dangerous:

————–

“The “serpent power” unleashed in meditation is not the power of the Holy Spirit, nor is it merely the latent power of the soul-it is a power that even gurus admit can be, at times, very destructive to the yoga practitioner. So where does this power come from that can potentially be so dangerous? It should help the inquisitive reader to see that there is absolutely NO account of anyone in the Bible being harmed who was filled with the true Holy Spirit (symbolised by a dove-a harmless creature). But there are undeniable accounts of insanity or dark occultic powers being the by-product of an encounter with this power likened to a serpent (a creature which can be quite harmful).”

————–

HOW: I quit teaching and taking Yoga for reasons like this. I do not believe that Christians should participate in “Christian Yoga” either because they are still using the traditional Yoga poses. Many of the postures in Yoga are designed to release this “serpent power” up the spine and lead it to a point at the top of the head in order to open the “chakras” to unity with the divine,(or some said this was the act of becoming “divine” or “realizing your divinity”). I want no part in that.

————–

Yoga postures (whether Christian or not) are not necessarily based on fitness goals. They are based in Yoga tradition and its religious purposes. WholyFit exercises are based on fitness principals alone (see the picture at the top of the page) and that is one thing that makes WholyFit so very different from Yoga.

Yoga and Humanism

Article 1

by Laura Monica, WholyFit

We at WholyFit provide an alternative to Yoga and along with that, comes a responsibility to continue to educate our culture about the dangers of Yoga.

Please comment on this article at www.wholyfit.org blog.

————–

WHAT: HUMANISM is an anti-Christ philosophy that shows up everywhere in our culture. Very basically, Humanism teaches that only that which can be known through reason is true. Humanism denies God and spirituality.

————–

It may surprise you that Yoga and transcendental meditation could easily be classified as humanist philosophies, as this series of articles will prove. We at WholyFit reject Humanism completely, along with the practice of Yoga and TM.

————–

TM and Yoga: Transcendental meditation (TM) is the kind of meditation Yoga teaches. The humanistic concept of “Self Actualization” is foundational to TRANSCENDENTAL MEDITATION, but is called, “Enlightenment” in TM. TM is touted to be a harmless stress management technique, but in reality it enables spirit channeling and other dangerous New Age religious practices.

————–

Below, Tm Guru Maharishi Mahesh Yogi repeats the same old jargon that I”ve heard a hundred times about Yogic meditation:

————–

“Transcendental Meditation is a simple effortless technique that aids relaxation, relieves stress and provides physical and mental energy. As such, it does not conflict with any existing beliefs, religious or otherwise. However, many people do report that regular meditation gives clarity and perspective to their highest aspirations.”

————–

In reality, TM is a dangerous spiritual practice. Read below about what a former student of the Mahareshi, Vail Caruth, says: (Included by permission of Vail Carruth http://www.living-light.net )

————–

“When Maharishi Mahesh Yogi brought Transcendental Meditation (TM) to the United States in the 60’s, it took the Berkeley campus by storm, with the promise that it would relieve stress and that through the practice of TM, one could reach cosmic consciousness in five years. … It has caused many to experience mental and spiritual problems, such as oppression and even possession by malevolent spirits. During a teacher training course while in bed one night, a powerful spirit tried to overpower me, but I resisted it (with great difficulty) until it left. I remembered hearing someone ask Maharishi what to do if they encountered a demon. He answered, “Don’t be afraid, invite them in.” Another time, however, he said to “resist it” and it will leave. Providentially, I chose the latter suggestion. But the experience was very scary.”
- Vail Carruth, author of “Authentic Enlightenment” http://www.living-light.net

————–

WHY: Why are Yoga and TM humanistic? In keeping with Humanist philosophies, both TM & Yoga proponents claim to pursue a pure science of the mind that aids reason and has no spiritual repurcussions. Both TM and Yoga proponents insist that their practices are not religious and do not interfere with any other religious belief.

————–

Teachers of TM insist that:

————–

Transcendental Meditation technique is not a religion or philosophy and involves no change in lifestyle.” (www.tm.org)

————–

The above statement is not truth. Here is the proof:

————–

Vail’s first hand experience, reported in her book “In Search of True Enlightenment” reveals the truth that the mantras used in TM are the NAMES OF HINDU DEITIES! How is that not religious? How can the Maharishi claim that TM does not conflict with any religion? Answer: the same way that Yogis claim Yoga is not a religion: To the humanist, there is no God and no religion.

————–

Anyone who would claim that TM and Yoga are not a religion dismisses the religious beliefs of others which is extremely arrogant. They believe those of us who are “encumbered” by religious beliefs simply have not evolved to a higher state of mind and therefore our opinions should be discounted, treated as non-existent.

————–

HOW: I did a homework assignment with my son and thought I would share some interesting facts with you. (His teacher is Mrs. Bankhead of Legacy. ) Please post your own research by writing a response to this post. Below is Mrs. Bankhead’s research that will help you identify humanism in contemporary media.

Why We Don’t Register With Yoga Alliance

Saturday, May 2nd, 2009

Unholy Alliance?

WholyFit certification is top notch -  the gold standard in mind body exercise training. So why don’t we register with Yoga Alliance?

YOGA POLICE

As Christians, we do not need to submit to the “Yoga Police”.  Yoga Alliance requires the study and PRACTICE of a Yoga lifestyle including 50 contact hours of mantras, chanting and kriyas completed in a SUPERVISED CLASSICAL YOGA environment. Yoga Alliance will NOT accept our CHRISTIAN LIFESTYLE practices in the place of TRADITIONAL YOGA LIFESTYLE practices. I ASKED THEM. THEY SAID NO!

Did you know that all Christians who are Yoga Alliance registered as yoga teachers have signed an agreement with the Yoga Alliance stating that they have indeed submitted to Yogic mantras, meditation, chanting and kriyas?

Let’s be clear: Yogic meditation is TRANSCENDENTAL MEDITATION, not the Biblical meditation that King David taught in the Psalms when he said, “I will meditate on all Thy doings and muse on the works of Your hands.” (Ps 143)

TM

Transcendental Meditation has been proven to be spiritually dangerous. See Vail Carruth’s book, “Kiss of God.” She used to be a TM teacher and has witnessed first hand that the mantras used in TM bring opening to demonic spirits. The mantras in TM are the names of Hindu deities.

CHANTING

Let me also give you my personal experience with Yogic chanting. In an Anusara yoga teacher training John Friend passed out prayer cards in Sanskrit that we were supposed to chant. The chant was, “I give my soul completely to Shiva”. I told the leadership I would not do that and quit training. Never went back. (By the way the Yoga people themselves are very nice. I have nothing personally against them, in fact I like them very much. I pray for them. They don’t mean to offend, they just don’t understand.)

For the Yoga Police “Christian Yoga” means operating in community - in alliance. It’s their way or the highway. That’s why WholyFit is not Christian Yoga.  We do not make unholy alliances.  We are committed to RADICAL purity and devotion to Christ.

When I used to teach “Yoga” I got hired by the YMCA to teach it even though I refused to register with the Yoga Alliance.  I told the “Y” it was against my religious beliefs to register. I showed them  proof of my skill level and experience with documentation and demonstrated a class.  I was hired on the spot - without being yoga alliance registered!  The bottom line is, if you draw clients to your classes, are professional, caring and skilled any club or venue would love to hire you - without Yoga Alliance’s stamp of approval!

As Christians we don’t need to submit to the authority of the Yoga Industry. WholyFit operates OUTSIDE of the Yoga community. WholyFit is not a part of the Yoga community. WholyFit training teaches the study and practice of the Christian Lifestyle practices of:

  • Worship
  • Prayer
  • Scripture Memorization
  • Celebration
  • Rest
